International Experience Canada (IEC)
The International Experience Canada (IEC) provides an opportunity for youth with the opportunity to work and travel in Canada. The eligibility criteria vary for each country. This includes age limits, length of the work permit and residency criteria to name a few.
There are three main types of work permits in the IEC. These are working holiday, young professional, and international (co-op) internship.
The following countries (subject to change) currently make up the list of countries for the IEC. Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom.
Work experience gained while on a work permit through an IEC category can help in meeting criteria for a particular Permanent Residency option such as CEC or a PNP.
