Common-Law Partners
Family reunification is one of the main and major goals of IRCC. Family reunification is also a major point of interest for interest new immigrants as they potentially have the ability to sponsor a future spouse, a dependent child, or their parents/grandparents for example for Canadian Permanent Residency.
IRCC's defines a common-law as a couple who have been living together for at least one year continuously. Common-Law sponsorship applications are potentially eligible for an open work permit if applying from within Canada. There is eligibility criteria that a sponsor must meet to be able to sponsor their Common-Law partner.
Spouse
A Canadian Citizen or Permanent resident may sponsor their spouse if they themselves meet the eligibility criteria of a sponsor. The spouse must also meet certain criteria for sponsorship
